    What is Indoor Beach Volleyball?

Everything you need to know about playing at Ossie Indoor Beach Volleyball

    Who are we?

Ossie Indoor Beach Volleyball is a purpose built indoor venue with netted sand courts, purely for indoor beach volleyball and other sand sports. Our social and competitive league competitions run Mon-Thurs from 6pm to 9:45. We are also open for social drop-in play from 5pm every Friday and Saturday night.

Indoor Beach Volleyball, sometimes called 'Rebound Volleyball' is a hybrid variation of the traditional formats of volleyball, incorporating sand courts with the indoor environment. The side and top nets ensure the ball is always in play, making the game much more dynamic, flowing and inclusive. Our game can be played at any skill and fitness level, making it the perfect high-fun but low-impact social sport all year round.

    League competitions

Monday nights - Men's 4-A-Side competition Tuesday nights - Mixed 6-A-Side and Open 2-A-Side competitions Wednesday nights - Mixed 6-A-Side and Open 2-A-Side competitions Thursday nights - Open 4-A-Side competition

    What's the format?

All teams will play a 45min game once per week. Games are played at 6:00, 6:45, 7:30, 8:15 or 9:00 each night, with varying game times throughout the season.

Games are played in 3 x 14minute sets, with a 1-minute break between sets to fill a 45-minute time slot. Play continues until the set timer ends and the team with the most points wins the set. Points are allocated for ladder positions: 2 for a set win, plus 1 bonus point for each 10 in the game score. Subs are permitted in each competition, with exchange to occur between sets.

    Fri/Sat night social drop ins:

Players come along and register as a single player (and put into a team) or as your own team. Warm-up games are played until around 7pm when our game timer starts to activate the 15min timed games. Teams will rotate after each game to play against a new team, in either a "King of the Court" or "Round Robin" style format. our (Free) sausage sizzle is served around 9pm and games continue casually until late, often around 11-12pm.

    Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between Indoor Beach Volleyball and regular volleyball?

Indoor beach volleyball is played on sand courts inside a climate-controlled facility. It uses a combination of indoor hardcourt and outdoor beach volleyball rules as well as having a variety of unique rules, mainly around the use of the nets. The basics of the game are very close to the traditional rules of volleyball, except we don't have any boundary lines to allow the ball to go out of play. A few main differences include: *You must serve from within 1.5m of the back and right side corners *The serve cannot touch ANY nets *Receiving team must touch the ball twice before sending the ball back over the net *The ball is played off middle, side and back nets, or the top net if it is on your own side still. (The ball cannot contact the top net before going over the middle net) To get more familiar, keep an eye on our social media pages, and check out our rules and regulations page for the fill and abbreviated rules guides. https://ossieindoorbeachvolleyball.com.au/rules-and-regulations

How do I register my team for a league?

You can register a new team at any time during the season, as long as there is capacity on our fixtures. We have recently opened up an additional time slot, so most nights currently have team availability. If you don't have a team of your own, we suggest coming along to our Friday or Saturday social drop-in sessions to get familiar with the game, and see if you can connect with other players that may be looking for a team. We also have our "Team/Player connect" page, which is currently where you can post on our website to try find a connection.

What if I can't make it to a scheduled game?

We understand life happens! Teams should try to have enough registered players to cover absences where possible. If your team cannot field the minimum players, please notify us 72 hours in advance so we can try to arrange fill-in players or teams for that week. You can also utilise the Facebook pages to try and find fill-in players for when you are short.

Are there age restrictions for playing?

Our adult leagues are for players 14 years and older. And we would love to see no age limit on the upper end. We also have dedicated junior programs for younger players, divided by appropriate age groups (typically 8-10, 11-13, and 14-16).

Do you have casual drop-in sessions for non-league players?

Absolutely! We run social volleyball sessions every Friday and Saturday night, where individuals or teams can just drop in and play without committing to a league. Check our Social page for more information. https://ossieindoorbeachvolleyball.com.au/social

What safety measures are in place at your facility?

While players do play at their own risk, we take every precaution to maintain a sae playing environment, including maintaining proper sand depth for safe landings, having first aid equipment on-site as well as keeping the centre air-conditioned in the Summer. The sand is regularly screened and treated with anti-bacterial measures to maintain to ensure a safe and sanitary playing environment.

Can I book a court for private use?

Yes, courts are available for private bookings when not in use for leagues or events. Contact us for availability and rates. Private bookings are perfect for practice, friendly games, parties, corporate or special events.

Do you have facilities like showers and changing rooms?

Our centre includes clean changing rooms with showers and toilets for all players to use before and after games.

How is the scoring system different from regular volleyball?

Each game is played in 3 timed sets. The team with the highest score in each set will get two points. If the set is drawn, each team will get 1 point. The overall game winner will also receive 1 additional point for winning the game. Within each set, both teams will receive a bonus point for every 10 points they score within a set.
